The Scarf of Sociopathy: An Official Challenge

aguidetodisguise:

So, after yesterdays post on crying we have received several messages like this one:

Yeah. That didn’t work the first time around.

So we are proposing a challenge, in part because we really would like to add photos to that tutorial and also because it would be damn funny to make her cry.

And so, the scarf of sociopathy. AC is going to knit it. So confident in her inability to cry she will add five rows to the scarf for each submission that fails.

There are two ways you can enter:

  • Reblog this post with a link to the thing you think will make AC cry. She will track it down and make a note of your username.
  • Submit your content to AC’s main Tumblr here.

But we really don’t think you will succeed. So, on the 1st of June, if no entry has succeeded prior to this date, we will randomly select a winner from the reblogs and submissions and then post the scarf to you. For free.

The scarf itself is hand knitted in rib and a lovely, 100% acrylic, Sherlock/TARDIS blue depending on the light.

So, to reiterate:

  • If you get AC to cry before 12pm (noon) GMT 1st of June 2012 you win a wonderful scarf.
  • If nobody gets her to cry before 12pm (noon) GMT 1st of June 2012 we will randomly select a winner.
  • You do not have to link content every time you reblog but you may not reblog more than thrice a day.
  • If you win and do not have your ask open/do not contact us within 72 hours we will pick another winner.
  • Likes do not count.
  • You do not have to be following any blog, but you might have a better idea of what will make AC cry and will be able to see the winner’s announcement if you do.
  • Submissions to this blog and not AC’s main blog will not be counted.
  • Open worldwide.

I think that’s everything. This may assist in honing your deductive skills as you attempt to figure out AC’s worst fears…

SM & AC

Alright, so contest is now closed, thank you to those who entered, and we shall sift through the entrants. Nothing submitted and tested has worked so far, so we shall go through the remaining entries (some of them take hours to complete) and see if any of those work. If not, we shall randomly pick a winner and contact them.

Kisses, AC

Walks can be distinctive. Walks have personalities and histories attached to them. Walks can be indicative of finishing and injuries and training, so it is a good idea to learn how to control your walk.
The optimal way to learn to change your walk is to learn to control it. That might seem like a confusing idea, but learning how your posture ought to be and how to shift your walk from the knees to the hips and so forth gives you a greater knowledge of how you actually work anatomically, and therefore how you can manipulate these factors.
You should be able to walk with a book on your head and descend stairs without looking down or bobbing. You should practice these things well before you try and reproduce any walk you think you’ve seen. Think of these exercises as a reset, obscuring any little quirks or bad habits you might have adopted.
Now you can add distinctions. A woman exploiting her sexuality for her own means might shift her walk to her hips, alternately pushing the forward to add wiggle to her walk (it also makes it easier to walk in heels, I am informed). Alternately men will often walk from the knee, with the legs a little further apart than women.
Body language is a huge part of disguise. Do not underestimate the power of a slight slouch or shift in centre of gravity either. Runway models lean backwards slightly while walking to mute many of the distinctions in their individual walks. You could use this, but it does look a little odd in real life. Disguised walks benefit most from repeated practice, fit in a few minutes a day and you will see a difference.

Anonymous asked: Sebastain and Jim are sitting in a tree, plotting the fall of so-ci-ety. First there's the plan, then success in torrents. Oops! Now Sherlock has an arrest warrant...

Days in court and all for nothing, Sherly’s a fraud and Watson’s blushing.

First there’s threats, and then a promise, oh look! London plays the doubting Thomas.

Everybody.
It might be subtle, but figure out a person well enough and it’s there.

Anonymous asked: Has the younger Holmes ever tried to deduce Moran in one of his disguises? And if so, has he succeeded in figuring out who he was?

Sherlock has stated he doesn’t know who I am.

Funny how much people care over dead men’s opinions.

Basic Terms and Tools: A Rundown of Makeup Vocabulary

We’ve had some questions about what certain products do or what we mean when we refer to certain techniques. Consider this a glossary then, something that should be of help. We mainly focused on the frequently asked, if there’s something else you’re wondering about we have an askbox for a reason.

Products:

  • Moisturizer - important to give the skin a smooth texture and help makeup go on smoothly.
  • Foundation - provides an even base and something to blend contouring and shading into.
  • Concealer - as the name implies it conceals things, usually discolouration or imperfections, but also distinguishing marks such as tattoos or scars.
  • Powder - Sets makeup and usually dulls shine.
  • Primer - available for various parts of the face, we usually use an eyeshadow one to help the colours last longer, but feel no need for a skin primer as of just now.
  • Highlighter - often a light shimmer, emphasises high points of the face.
  • Eyeshadow - may come in powder, cream, or liquid form, designed to add colour or shading to the eye area, though may be used on other parts of the face.
  • Eyeliner - can come as pencil, cake, gel, or liquid. Many colours available, black omnipresent.
  • Blush/Rouge/Bronzer - to add colour/shading to the face.
  • Lipstick - usually in a bullet format, used to add colour/definition to the mouth. May be used as rouge.
  • Lipgloss - adds shine to lips. Can be used to highlight face.

Textures:

  • Matte - no shine at all. Very French.
  • Velvet - also called Satin. Best for “natural” looks.
  • Luminous - some shine. May look “glowy.” Also good for natural looks.
  • High-shine - Difficult to wear on the skin, good on lips or eyes. Fantastic to photograph.
  • Sheer - will still be able to see natural skin underneath.
  • Medium - between Sheer and Full Coverage
  • Full Coverage - heavy, difficult to make look natural. Full coverage foundation may be substituted for concealer.

Techniques:

  • Stippling - a flat headed brush is used to push the foundation onto the skin. Very good for concealer the texture of the skin, i.e. scars.
  • Foiling - when water or mixing medium is added to eyeshadow before application. Intensifies the colour
  • Blotting/Dabbing - instead of swiping the colour intensely, this gives a soft, more natural looking swathe of shading.
  • Tightlining - where eyeliner is applied to the upper inner rim of the eye to thicken the lash line and define the eye invisibly.

Other things of note:

  • Socket - the part of the eye where the eyelid folds under/into. The bone there is called the socket.

Will be updated if you ask for specific things to be defined.

Anonymous asked: didn't the shards of glass technically win the scarf of sociopathy?

They didn’t have their askbox open.

samantha-spanner asked: On the Irene Adler hair instruction thing... Is there a maximum hair length for it to look right, or is there some way to extend the style or tuck extra length away somewhere? Ive found that It's kind of hard to style when your hair's length is over half of your height. (Also, second question. Is there a way to make your hair look shorter and fuller than it really is?)

Adler’s hair is quite a bit longer than Astrid’s, but it all fits into a French twist. I’m sure there are videos on Youtube or similar with a variety of hair lengths shown. As for the front, there’s no maximum length.

We did a post on how to fake short hair/a bob as they would have before your grandmother was born here, and a post about how to make it look short by disguising it with a scarf here.
